Our Story

The Name ENGEDI

The area around the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, is renowned for its extreme salinity, which renders it inhospitable to most life forms, including those in its waters and nearby regions. However, amidst this harsh environment, the oasis of Engedi stands out as a symbol of life and vitality. With its lush greenery, including palm trees, and unique rock formations and caves,

Engedi provides a stark contrast to the desolate surroundings. Not only is Engedi a place of natural beauty, it also holds historical and biblical significance. It is believed to be the location where David sought refuge in the caves while fleeing from King Saul. Moreover, according to biblical accounts, it was here that David gathered a group of men who were in debt, distress, and discouragement, and forged them into a mighty army that would go on to achieve remarkable feats.

This transformation from a band of troubled individuals to a formidable force serves as a powerful testament to the resilience and potential for renewal that Engedi represents.

A trip taken to Israel some years ago was a pivotal experience that led to the naming of this vision. It was a journey of faith, a journey where the Lord’s guidance was sought for the establishment of a charity. It was during this transformative pilgrimage that the name ‘Engedi’ was revealed.

McKenzie, a destitute squatters’ community, became the focal point of this benevolent endeavour.

A place where hope seemed like a distant dream. A place with limited opportunities was chosen to be the canvas on which the divine would paint an oasis of hope, help, and health. It was prophesied that this very place, McKenzie, would become the nurturing ground for over 600 children annually. Engedi, true to its calling, has been instrumental in supporting and nurturing these children, providing them with essentials such as food and education.

Through the unwavering efforts of Engedi, over 600 children are touched by love and care every single day. It is through practical acts of compassion that these children come to experience the love of the Lord Jesus. The impact of Engedi goes beyond mere sustenance; it encompasses the spiritual nourishment and holistic development of these children, shaping their lives with the warmth of love and the light of hope.
